Metamorphosis
Project type
Dance for Proscenium Theater
Date
February 2022
Location
Tempe, Arizona
Metamorphosis was my senior capstone project, it was a dance piece performed by an ensemble of 6 dancers and 5 musicians. It was a explorative project that represented the changes in individuals by using animal imagery like Butterflies and Snakes.
As the piece begins you'll see dancers moving to the beat of the music, constrained by it, as the second half begins, dancers shed off the first layer of bulky clothing to reveal a vibrant costume, and with it their individuality. The second half also introduces the live band, which is the representation of freedom in choices through their sound.
The styles used to choreograph the piece were Salsa, Whacking and Post Modern Contemporary.
Choreographed by Xochilt Huitzil in Collaboration with the Dancers.
Performed by
Dancers: Sahvanna Thompson, Takela King, Meredith Grula, Honestine Mbugyene, Esteban Rosales, and Xochilt Huitzil.
Musicians: Wallace Steele (Saxophonist), Nick McGregor(Percussionist), Eli Nelson (Guitarist), Jake Leyba(Bassist), Robert Grahamn (Percussionist).
